ISANDLWANA IMMORTELLES
On my way to Brecon for the Regional Meeting I had time to visit Brecon Cathedral where the colours or those that were left of them of the gallant 24th of Foot were laid up after the battle of Isandlawana in 1879. This the Zulu War and was a great deal more frightening than Afghanistan as 1450 soldiers were slaughtered in 45 minutes!! This picture are the remains of the original flowers which bedecked the surviving Queens Colour and are preserved in the cathedral.
YORKS HAND OVER CASH
Here I am receiving a most welcome cheque for £30,000 from the Yorkshire Regiment. We depend on the regimental associations to make a contribution to the Soldiers Charity. Normally this is about £.5million and it is a hell of a help. Good to be with the old regiment and with me is David O'Kelly , the Regimental Secretary and who I knew years ago in Bosnia. Needs a haircut!!
