WORLD CURRY FESTIVAL

Well, I wonder if you knew that such a thing existed.  Who’d have thought it?  Anyway we the Soldiers’ Charity were the partners for the event in Leeds last week.  It was an amazing affair.  We organised a field kitchen and handed out 7000 curry samples, yes 7000!   The Gurkha Chef,  Sergeant Sange Tamang  from the Gurkha Logistic Regiment played a blinder and did some cooking on the stage.  Well over £5500 was raised in collections on the day quite apart from the contacts made.

BARCLAYS MAKE 'JOGLE GLOBAL

The Barclaycard Global Payment Acceptance team reached Land’s End last Friday in blazing weather and this photo shows team leader for the final week, Dave Cookson, at Wyvern Barracks on a command task (although it looks as though he is raking the lawn!)  Apparently the scenario was the team’s bikes had been stolen and they had to solve the mystery by following a trail of clues.  What is great news is that they have raised over £102,000 to date in support of Individual Recovery Plans, which is well over twice their target.  Brilliant stuff.

THEY MADE IT

All riders made it on the first leg and three hearty cheers to them all. Had att sitrep from the redoubtable Penny who said that they had a few blow outs and a broken chain but spirits far from broken. To morrow on on to Windsor.

THE OFF

Soldier Ride just about to go and they are all in fine form. Lots of banter. It was great to see these men and women getting on so well and learning so much from each other.

SOLDIER LEADER

Colonel Gregory Gadson is the Director of US Army Wounded Warrior Programme which is the official programme for the wounded in the States. He is in great form and raring to go.  He is a most inspiring character and I look forward to getting to know him better as the week goes forward.

SOLDIER RIDE PREPARE

Well here we are at Tedworth House as the Brits and Americans get ready for the first leg of Soldier Ride. There is lots of banter and good humour. Its a beautiful day for it.
